John 1:32
The word "abide" is in the King James Version of the Bible 82 times. It is in 77 verses.
The Classical Greek writers used the word meno meaning, "to stay,” “stand fast,” “remain” or “abide.” It has the idea to remain at home, or stay where you are and not wander off.
When we are asked to look at the word abide ?
I immediately think of the verse “If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.” John
But after further review and thought. The question becomes free will and with whom or with what do we choose to abide? That will make all the difference in how we view this word. If you choose to abide in the path of a righteous man you will reap the rewards.
If we choose to abide with like-minded souls we will have strength in numbers against our enemy. We abide in earthly possessions they will not stand the test of time.
But if we choose Jesus and God's word we will abide in the treasure of His light and we will reap the rewards of His LOVE and His promise of eternal life.
The choice is clearly documented in the Bible. But it is up to our free will?? I do not understand “Free Will” there is always a price to pay for our choices. Eternity is a long time!
“I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.”
John
“Abide thou with me, fear not: for he that seeketh my life seeketh thy life: but with me, thou shalt be in safeguard.”
1 Samuel
