"The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1:5, NIV: |
The most common usage of oil in the Bible was to symbolize the Holy Spirit. It was used to portray the blessings of God and his power. Oil was used to anoint the sick, leaders, and as a blessing when Jesus washed the disciples' feet and rubbed them with oil.
Oil a golden sweet rich commodity. What made it so precious? Its value has been appreciated for centuries. It was traded, it was consumed, it was used for anointing, it has been used to light lamps to chase away the darkness, it has been used to adorn beauties in biblical times... it has healing properties.
There were several oils used but it seems the most popular oil was olive oil. It carries symbolism throughout the Bible and is still utilized today. The fruit of the olive tree is crushed at a high intensity to squeeze out this valued golden liquid. I did a further investigation to find our body is made up of an oil substance as well. It keeps our bodies well lubricated and assists our immune system and plays a significant part in keeping us healthy.
So, when I look at this precious liquid. I see it as a beautiful product that God has produced to sustain life. My word study seems to always bring me back in time. Jesus was very much like the beautiful olive tree. He gave us His best fruits. He was crushed and bruised and this precious life-sustaining product (oil) flowed to cleanse our lives.
However, its value is like no other. This gift is truly priceless!! The thought of His sacrifice crushes the very fiber of my existence. It’s a gift that I can never adequately repay. I can only love Him far beyond my own understanding. It’s a love that grows on such a spiritual plane many searches for it but thinks it is difficult to find or even understand. It truly is simplistic we make it difficult when we lead with our minds.
I say lead with your heart and soul, and you will find this symbolic oil is a priceless gift from Jesus. when you find Him, your life will never be the same.
It’s Him, It’s always Him.
1 John 2:27 “But the anointing that you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone should teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about everything, and is true, and is no lie—just as it has taught you, abide in him."
First John 2:20 “But you have been anointed by the Holy One, and you all have knowledge."
