Root

“It is in the roots, not the branches, that a tree's greatest strength lies.” ..

Meaning of root: the part of a plant which attaches it to the ground or to a support, typically underground, conveying water and nourishment to the rest of the plant via numerous branches and fibers:

There are approximately 61 verses in the Bible that refer to the word root.

The word root goes deep..The root system searches for water and nutrients to sustain life and to stabilize its canopy.  But what and how do we relate to this word without being a gardener or a farmer?

I believe it is proven we are all are much like that tiny seed... Without proper conditions, we could never have a life... The seedlings need tender care. When I examined this word I could not help but think of our Creator.

How did He think of such detail?  The seed is just a seed without God’s intervention. But even the tiniest seed needs to break the outer skin of its shell to grow roots to sustain life.

I do believe nature holds many clues and parallels of how the life cycle actually works. When we examine people we say the word root does not pertain to people.  And if you study a tree and a person side by side you would be correct. We have no physical root system. But we do have spiritual roots that go deeper and further back in time that we could even begin to imagine.

And much like the tree, our quest in life is to search for the nutrients that will allow us to sustain a stable canopy and bear fruit.  I have seen many accomplish this on the surface.  But their root system does not penetrate the earth to get that deeper spiritual nutrition that our Creator offers.

Those are the ones that can not survive the lashing of any strong wind or storm... Did you know that roots can be so strong they can actually penetrate rock? Think about that last statement for just a moment. We often hear God is my ”Rock”.  If we can look past the physical and look with spiritual eyes.  We could begin to envision our spiritual roots penetrating the strength of the rock. Where He can stabilize us to grow a beautiful canopy... Now what is the purpose of the beautiful canopy? Perhaps to shade others? Perhaps to beautify the surrounding area? But once we live out our life what is left? The true and real purpose for each creation is to bear fruit and multiply.

So I ask are your spiritual roots only on the surface? Do they search for God's nutrients by spending time with Him and His word? Do you feed your spiritual soul? Do you shade others? Do you stand there for others to admire your shallow assistance? Or do you bear the most beautiful fruit that will become your testimony of life for future generations??  He is much like a gardener and we are the seed.  Singularly we bear fruit but must together we have the ability to become a purposeful harvest. He is the nutritional value our souls crave.

It's Him, It's always Him!

Job 14:7-9

“For there is hope for a tree,

When it is cut down, that it will sprout again,

And its shoots will not fail.

“Though its roots grow old in the ground

And its stump dies in the dry soil,

At the scent of water, it will flourish

And put forth sprigs like a plant.

“How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, Nor stand in the path of sinners, Nor sit in the seat of scoffers! But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law, he meditates day and night. He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, Which yields its fruit in its season And its leaf does not wither; And in whatever he does, he prospers.”

Psalms 1:1-3 NASB1995

“That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.” Ephesians 3:17-19 KJV
