"In revival, God is not concerned about filling empty churches, He is concerned about filling empty hearts." ~ Leonard Ravenhill
Revive is mentioned 8 times in the Bible.
It means to recover or return from a state of neglect to closeness to Him, or an awakening to Him who made us. We realize we belong to Him.
Reading about Revivals that have occurred over the years has always been something that has drawn my attention.
In a Revival, God makes Himself known in His power and love to one or to thousands.
What brings Revival to a person, a group, or to a thousand?
It can come after long requests for God to come. Or it can come during the worship of hymns and songs. Or when we least expect it.
A trip to Kentucky made me think of the revival that came to Asbury College. It came unexpectedly at a student chapel meeting on February 3, 1970. The dean of the school gave testimony of his journey with Jesus that morning. When he finished he asked if any students wanted to share what God had done in their lives. Students began coming and sharing. Many began coming down to the altar as the presence of God came upon all. Some were praying, some were worshipping and some were weeping in repentance. What was usually an hour chapel meeting lasted for 185 hours. Classes were canceled. No one wanted to leave this overwhelming presence of God. One professor said he felt as if he was baptized in an unaccountable spirit of love.
Our loving Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are willing to burst upon us unexpectedly. They want to see those that are weary of well-doing revived to love and joy that cannot be stopped. Hearts that are filled to overflowing. Others may have strayed on to a path that has led them far away from their earlier joy and they need to come back. Others are unaware there is a Son who loves them with such passion and He has to invade their space and show them His great love.
Today don’t refuse His love. Grab on to it. If it means you need to repent, do it. If you have burdens to lay down, do it.
If He comes unexpectedly and fills you with His love, receive it. God has no restraints of time or space. Respond to that spirit of revival as they did at Asbury College. You will never be the same again. You will be changed. You will love Him with all your heart, soul, and mind.
Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you? Psalm 85:6
You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore. Psalm 16:11
